Tinnitus & Thyroid

Tinnitus is a very common side effect of thyroid disease in the more common Hypothyroidism. The thyroid gland is found in the neck below the mouth and is is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body. The thyroid controls  how sensitive the body is to other hormones, how quickly the body burns energy and is responsible for making proteins.

Thyroid dysfunction leads to numerous problems including weight gain, low energy levels, depression, increased sensitivity to pain and it can also cause tinnitus and hearing loss. Tinnitus is generally present as a continuous sound and is more likely to be present if the Thyroid condition has been present for a number of years.

Tinnitus will usually reduce or resolve once the underlying Thyroid problem is addressed.
